How We Define Love
Our Volunteers and their definitions of Love in Action
February 13, 2019
“A LOT OF PEOPLE LIKE TO TALK ABOUT WHAT THEY DO.
I was always raised if you truly cared about something, if you truly loved something – you need to show it with action.”
Julie Bryant is one of hundreds of volunteers dedicating their time to showing #loveinaction this Valentine’s Day. They’re gutting, sawing, cementing, and painting their way through the best feeling they know…
BUT WHAT IS LOVE IN ACTION?
We asked a few of our volunteers that very question. The answers…well, keep your tissues on hand.
ABUNDANCE.
“Love in action is abundance. A feeling of a full heart and tired hands. Receiving smiles and kind eyes as you look up from your hard hat during a day’s work. Feeling supported and held up by your community and knowing anything is possible and within reach.” – Megan Kylee McLean, volunteer for USVI Recovery
HARD WORK.
“Love in action is showing up every day and working hard and just keeping on.” – Maria Mercurio, volunteer for Texas Recovery
DOING SOMETHING.
“Love in action is having an understanding for those that need help, and actually doing something about it, instead of just having it as a thought. I’ve got two spare hands. Many hands make light work.” – Brendan Sims, volunteer for Mexico Recovery
AND SOMETIMES, IT’S THE LITTLE THINGS.
“You can tell somebody that you love them or you care about them all the time. But it’s the actions you do for people, the little things. Here in Yabucoa with All Hands and Hearts, I see volunteers show how much they love what they’re doing. Every day, as volunteers we show our love in action just by the little things we do for each other.” – Julie Bryant, volunteer for Puerto Rico Recovery
SO, THERE YOU HAVE IT.
No matter how you cut it, love is action.
From our volunteers to our staff members – Puerto Rico to Nepal and beyond –
Happy Valentine’s Day from all of us at All Hands and Hearts.
